Sure Start

Government Office for the West Midlands is working to deliver the Sure Start programme in the Region which is the cornerstone of the Government’s commitment to halve child poverty by 2010.

Sure Start is a Government programme that brings together early education, childcare, health and family support so that every child gets the best possible start in life. It covers targeted services in disadvantaged areas, and Government Offices work to deliver the programme in the regions. More information on the national picture

The Government is committed to delivering:

  • The best start in life for every child
  • Better opportunities for parents
  • Affordable, good quality childcare
  • Stronger and safer communities

Government Office for the West Midlands is working with partners to set up Children’s Centres in the most deprived wards throughout the region, with the long-term goal of having a Children’s Centre in every ward. There are currently 134 Children’s Centre plans in progress within the West Midlands with many more planned for the future.
