Tourism

Government Office for the West Midlands is working with partners to promote Department for Culture, Media and Sport tourism policies in the region. We are also influencing the development of new policies and strategies within the region so that the potential contribution of the tourism industry is properly recognised.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) champions good quality service for tourists, from both the UK and overseas. The Department encourages and helps the tourism industry to improve what it has to offer, with Government Offices supporting tourism initiatives to maintain the health of the tourism industry in each region. More information on the national picture

The West Midlands tourism industry encompasses 28,000 businesses which provide employment for 305,000 people and brings business worth £4.8 billion per year. There were 124 visits to the region in 2001.

Advantage West Midlands has strategic responsibility for tourism on the region. The role of tourism partners is set out in the visitor Economy Strategy, which can be found on the AWM website, and Tourism West Midlands was established to guide delivery of the strategy.  Tourism West Midlands is supported by an executive team at Advantage West Midlands.
