Economy

The Government Office for the West Midlands represents the interests of Whitehall Departments which have responsibility for key aspects of economic policy. The Government Office works with the Departments and other partners to strengthen the economy and, in particular, to:

• achieve sustainable improvements in economic performance;
• reduce inequalities within and between regions;
• improve skills;
• improve productivity;
• stimulate innovations.

Government Offices (GOs) work with Government departments and other partners to strengthen the economy in every region, working to reduce the gap in economic growth rates between the regions. More information on the national picture

We do this by influencing the priorities set by Government and regional partners, particularly Advantage West Midlands (AWM), and assisting in their effective delivery.

We also maintain contact with key business organisations in the region, identifying current issues affecting companies and ensuring that these are fed back to relevant Departments for them to consider when making policy changes.
