Individual Government Offices have Planning Casework teams which, on behalf of the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, deal with decisions on whether to call-in planning applications referred under the Departure, Green Belt, Shopping, Flooding and Playing Field Directions and requests to call-in, for her own determination.
More information on the national picture
Local authorities may require developers to provide an
environmental impact assessment (EIA) in support of a
planning application for development or change of use, which is likely to
have a significant effect on the environment. Developers or other
interested parties may appeal through us to the Secretary of State, if they
disagree with the local authority's decision on whether an EIA is needed
and, if so, on its scope.
GOWM continues to handle private listed building applications for the West
Midlands region which the local planning authority are required to send to
us in certain circumstances under the terms of Circular 08/2009. However, to ensure that Government
Offices continue to offer an efficient and quality service, most other
statutory planning casework is now handled by centralised teams across
the Government Office network and Planning Inspectorate. The national
arrangements for dealing with that casework are as follows:-
