Planning Casework

The Planning Team at Government Office for the West Midlands is responsible for: Processing and issuing decisions on a wide range of statutory planning and land use casework in the region. Offering advice and guidance to local authorities, developers, the public and other organisations on casework procedure and handle a range of general correspondence concerning a broad range of planning matters including Environmental Impact Assessment (Screening/Scoping Directions)

Individual Government Offices have Planning Casework teams which, on behalf of the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, deal with decisions on whether to call-in planning applications referred under the Departure, Green Belt, Shopping, Flooding and Playing Field Directions and requests to call-in, for her own determination. In addition we are the National Centre for a variety of planning and related casework and handle casework from across the country, including:

  • Allotments disposal
  • Article 4 Directions
  • Completion, Modification, Revocation and Discontinuance orders (opposed and unopposed) 
  • Conservation Area Consents
  • Listed Building Consents (All National Local Authority applications) and (Private applications for the West Midlands only)
  • Public Request to Order Disposals.

 

Our aim is that casework decisions should reflect national and regional planning policies, and contribute significantly to sustainable development and the competitiveness of the region.

 

Please note this Government Office no longer deals with:

  • Definitive Map Direction requests and appeals;
  • Highway Stopping Up Orders - Sections 247 & 248.

  • Compulsory Purchase Orders (Housing & Planning);
    Disposal of Local Authority land at less than best price.

  • Tree Preservation Order Appeals/Tree Replacement Notices;
  • Planning appeals - procedural stage.

  • Recovered appeals and called-in applications after public inquiry stages (now the responsibility for the Planning Central Casework Division in the Department for Communities and Local Government).
