The Street Crime Initiative was introduced in the West Midlands Police Force area in April 2002. During the first year of the initiative street crime fell by 23% across the region and the latest figures for 2005 show a further fall of 17.2% year-to-date.
A wide range of agencies and organisations are working in partnership to:
- Target and apprehend offenders (particularly persistent offenders)
- Identify and target crime hotspots
- Support victims and witnesses
- Address prisoner resettlement issues
- Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Criminal Justice System
