Published: Wed, 14 Dec 2005 11:51:18

People across the country will benefit from £1.6bn to improve local transport, Transport Secretary Alistair Darling announced today.

The investment - the Local Transport Capital Settlement - is given to local authorities each year to help them deliver transport improvements in local communities. The money will fund a range of improvements including new road safety measures, park and ride facilities, cycle lanes, better street lighting and road maintenance.
